Saint
Vincent’s Respect Life Safe Cradle for newborns
To all girls thinking about what to do with the baby once it’s born:
We beg you! Please sweetie, let me know the place where you have disposed
of the baby and I will go there to pick it up and take it to the Hospital.
Please don’t let this beautiful baby suffer in the cold. This baby is
innocent and wants to survive. I promise you there will be no questions
asked and the law protects your confidentiality and the baby's identity.
You don’t even have to give me your name but please for the baby’s sake
tell me where you put it. Thank you! GOD LOVES YOU!...and your baby will
thank you later on in life.
Suggested ways to contact us:
You can call the rectory (201) 436-2222
You can drop a note in the collection box or at the rectory door
You can contact us thru this website, or
You can let me know in whatever way you think is more confidential
REMEMBER - the law protects your
confidentiality - NO ONE has to know who you are - just let us know where
you put your newborn!
Your baby will be picked up and taken to the
nearest Hospital in the strictest of confidence. No questions asked. You
do not have to give us your name or any information that you do not wish
to give out. The Law protects your confidentiality and the baby's
identity. The important thing to do is to save the baby's life. DO NOT
DISPOSE OF YOUR BABY AS GARBAGE.
All you have to do is contact us. Our promise to you is:
1. that we will drop what ever we are doing and we will rush to pick up
the baby,
2. that we will take the baby to the nearest licensed general hospital,
where the baby will receive necessary treatment; and the child will then
be placed with the Division of Youth and Family Services.
Please give the baby a second chance to live.
Remember, you can not be prosecuted for abandonment of the child when you,
the parent, voluntarily arrange for another person to deliver the child to
the emergency room of a hospital in NJ "when the child is or appears to be
no more than 30 days old and you do not express an intent to return for
the child", and you make the decision of turning the infant over under the
"NJ Safe Haven Infant Protection Act".
As a matter of fact this is the right thing to do, instead of disposing of
your child in a dumpster or an alley. You carried this baby to term, now
you can safely turn the baby in for adoption instead of risking the baby's
life.
The law reads in part ".......Nothing in this subsection shall be
construed to create a defense to any prosecution arising from any conduct
other than the act of delivering the child as described herein, and this
subsection specifically shall not constitute a defense to any prosecution
arising from an act of abuse or neglect committed prior to the delivery of
the child to.......or the emergency department of a licensed general
hospital in this State......"
The Saint Vincent Respect Life SafeCradle for newborns is a public service
of our parish. In light of the national crisis of newborn infants being
abandoned in life-threatening situations and that some of these children
have been harmed or have died as a consequence of their abandonment; and
because the parents of these newborn infants may be under severe emotional
stress and may need a safe haven for their baby without fear of reprisals
and under strict anonymity.
